The historic Jericho estate is one of Nairobi’s oldest planned communities. It is home to many, including 86-year-old Priscilla Wanjiku, who now faces an uncertain future as the county’s Urban Renewal project moves in. Other historic estates – Woodley, Muthurwa and Makongeni, are being levelled for new projects, displacing residents and uprooting well established lives.Jericho may be next. While residents were told these homes would one day be theirs, they fear that they will be made homeless after their homes are levelled. Was that promise ever real?
