The National Coroner Service Act: Weaponizing Poverty
The victims of extrajudicial killings tend to be largely male, largely poor, largely from informal settlements. The classism implicit in the murder speaks into how our society ranks lives based on their socio-economic fate. The mantra seems to be, whatever you do, don’t be poor, as told by activist Njoki Gachanja, state pathologist Johannssen Oduor, lawyer Kariuki Karanja, state legal advisor Emily Chweya, and police oversight director David Nderitu.
