Jennifer N. Brass is a professor at the Indiana University O’Neill School of Public & Environmental Affairs and Managing Editor at Journal of Development Studies. She researches NGOs, public service provision, electricity access, and governance in Africa.
Megan Hershey is a professor of Political Science at Whitworth University. She studies civil society, HIV-prevention efforts, and youth citizenship in East Africa.
Both authors have published books about NGOs in Kenya: Allies or Adversaries: NGOs and the State in Kenya (Cambridge University Press, 2016) and Whose Agency: The Politics and Practices of Kenya’s HIV-Prevention NGOs (University of Wisconsin Press, 2019).
