Intergenerational Solidarity

Kenya’s history is laden with waves of counter-narratives that seek to provide a nuanced understanding of the progress and the complexities involved in nation-building. In this sense, the 2024 Gen Z movement acted as an entry into the third liberation, as a build-up from the first and the second liberation.

The series explores the ideas, perspectives, and opinions of Kenya’s most distinguished elders—the women and men who have fearlessly championed human rights, constitutional democracy, and the rule of law during the first and second liberation. Through fireside chats, it bridges generations by celebrating the invaluable contributions of those who have continually shaped Kenya’s human rights and democratic movements. The narratives lean on their experiences as a treasure trove of lessons that will help guide and empower Kenya’s next generation of advocates in navigating complex governance challenges.

In collaboration with Civic Voice, we delve into the path of memory and recollection by engaging Kenyan elders on human rights and democratic inspiration to share invaluable experiences, challenges, and wisdom. We aim to inspire and guide the Gen Zs who are currently navigating similar struggles within the current governance system. We aim not to document history, but to operationalise memory as a catalyst for unity.
